The South American Masters Collection
Having traveled extensively throughout Central and South America, I’ve been most impressed by the influence of the Old world and the Old World Masters.
I’ve been most delighted by these supposedly “third world cultures” who yet still hold and value artistic expression as one of the highest forms of the human experience.
Often using the most inferior of materials I’m always amazed at how they manage an unadulterated execution of the golden mien, flawless compositions and tone on tone colorations.
I’ve always been charmed by the humility in their great talent. Over time I came to learn that humility was cultivated by necessity, for as long as your teacher is alive you will always remain the student.
It is not unusual for a student to find his work coming under the scrutiny of the most harsh of all criticisms…a palette knife through the canvas…with the only exclamation…not good enough.
Living in a country where anyone can buy a box of paints and call himself an artist, it’s reassuring that somewhere artists are still held to a standard of excellence and accountability.
It is no surprise that it has been the art work of Central and South American artists that has held it’s value and consistently appreciated on the world market.
